Understanding, like a should scientist

Noticing that you have had an interaction with should is the first step. You might smell the should. You could hear the should. You can see the should mentally, as it is often an internal dia-log. Do you sense the should?

Once you start seeing the should that is thrown at you by others, and yourself, you start to intervene. The previous chapter was a sincere attempt to help you to stop shoulding on yourself. If you are motivated, and you start to see it, you’ll interrupt the shoulding. Don’t beat yourself up for this default tendency. Simply stay calm, be neutral, and return to the present moment. Try Notice Mind or Depth to learn how to Sit Your Mind. Maybe recycle, if needed, but otherwise intentionally step away from the should. Do it again and again. Eventually the should will bounce off you like nothing.
